The State Troopers PBA is pleased to report that Trooper George Stannard, who was shot in the hand last week in the Tupper Lake region while attempting to disarm a suicidal man, has been released from the hospital today.
Trooper Stannard was shot in the right hand with a muzzle-loading rifle as he attempted to gain control of the firearm from Donald L. McCray of Ticonderoga. McCray is being held in jail without bail on assault charges.
The PBA wishes Trooper Stannard well in his recovery, and we will continue to assist him and his family in any way possible.
The job of a New York State Trooper is extremely dangerous and unpredictable, as evidenced by this incident.
