Another police officer has been killed in a crash in which a Crown Victoria was struck from behind and burst into flames. North Carolina Trooper Anthony Cogdill, 32, who is survived by a wife and a 3-year-old son, was killed in the May 30 incident in Haywood County, North Carolina.
Trooper Cogdill had stopped a motorist for speeding along Interstate-40 and had returned to his Crown Victoria patrol car when a tractor-trailer ran off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail and then struck the rear of the patrol car. The patrol car, which had been retrofitted with a plastic safety shield, burst into flames.
