Today marks the 50th anniversary of the date when State Police members discovered an organized crime gathering in Apalachin, NY. The investigation that followed resulted in the convening of grand juries, the holding of congressional hearings, and the passing of new state and federal racketeering laws. The story of how this unfolded is complex and fascinating. We have posted an article from the Spring 2004 issue of the PBA Trooper magazine that describes the situation. The article is posted in PDF format.
