State Troopers PBA members are continuously having their duties expanded through assignments to homeland security details, such as riding on commuter trains in NYC, as outlined in the previous article on this web site. There are also numerous other special law enforcement assignments, such as Operation IMPACT, which pairs Troopers with municipal police officers in high-crime areas. Along with these increased duties comes increased danger, unfortunately. Below is an article from the Times Union newspaper of Albany which reports that a Trooper and an Albany Police Officer received minor injuries while making an arrest on Friday evening.

ALBANY — A city police officer and a state trooper suffered minor injuries Friday during a scuffle with an Albany man sought on a bench warrant, authorities said.

Police said Quinton R. Boyd, 23, assaulted both cops shortly before 5 p.m. on Clinton Avenue. Boyd was arrested and charged with two counts of felony assault and one count each of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and resisting arrest. Police said Boyd, of Ten Broeck Street, also was carrying cocaine.

At his arraignment in City Court on Saturday, Boyd was ordered held in the Albany County jail without bail. Judge William A. Carter scheduled a preliminary hearing for Wednesday. The bench warrant had stemmed from Boyd’s failure to appear in court on an unrelated charge. That charge was unavailable Saturday.
