The State Troopers PBA is mourning the loss of one of our own, Trooper Craig Todeschini, who was killed in a car crash Sunday evening while pursuing a speeding motorcycle in the hamlet of Pompey Hill in Onondaga County.

Trooper Todeschini, 25, was en route to a call about 6 p.m. when a motorcycle sped past him in the opposite direction at a speed that may have exceeded 100 mph. After notifying the dispatch center he was going to pursue the motorcycle, and about two miles later, Trooper Todeschini lost control of his patrol vehicle and struck a tree.

The death of Trooper Todeschini reminds us all the jobs of New York State Troopers and other law enforcement officers are dangerous and unpredictable. No day is ever routine, and Troopers place their lives on the line each and every day in the name of public safety.

The PBA’s thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of, and fellow Troopers who worked with Trooper Todeschini.

The last New York State Trooper to be killed in the line of duty was Trooper Andrew J. Sperr, who was shot and killed on March 1, 2006 in a shootout with bank robbers in the town of Big Flats, Chemung County.
