The following is a statement from New York State Troopers PBA President Thomas H. Mungeer:
The New York State Troopers PBA will file paperwork today in State Supreme Court in Wyoming County opposing the release of Volumes 2 and 3 of the Meyer Report regarding the retaking of the Attica Correctional Facility in 1971.
This move is in response to New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s actions to seek the release of confidential grand jury testimony pertaining to the investigation of the incident.
“The PBA has a duty and responsibility to not only protect the Constitutional rights of the Troopers who were forced to testify about their actions during the riot, but also to those who have had to recount the incident for 20 years because of criminal investigations and civil lawsuits,” said PBA President Thomas H. Mungeer. “The PBA has stood by them and will continue to stand by them in order to preserve the sanctity of confidential testimony during the grand jury process for all citizens in the state of New York.”
