A Canadian tractor-trailer driver pleaded guilty to aggravated criminally negligent homicide in the death of New York State Trooper David Cunniff and will be sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison. The 66-year-old man drove a tractor-trailer that hit Trooper Cunniff’s patrol vehicle as he was conducting a traffic stop along the shoulder of the New York State Thruway on December 16, 2013. Trooper Cunniff, a 9-year veteran of the New York State Police and a married father of two, died from his injuries the next day.
