Members of the New York State Police participated in a ceremonial 5K
(3.1 miles) torch run in Buffalo on Nov. 11, 2006 to celebrate the 25th
Anniversary Conference of the Special Olympics. Twenty State Police members
braved weather conditions of freezing rain to volunteer for the run and raise
funds for the Special Olympics.
The State Police team was the largest of any participating law
enforcement agency at the international conference, held from Nov. 7 through
Nov. 11 in Buffalo.
During the 5K run, every member of the State Police team had the
opportunity to carry the ceremonial torch with the Flame of Hope through the
streets of downtown Buffalo.
